The PDC Order of Merit is important because it determines the seeds for all of the tournaments on the PDC Pro Tour. The Pro Tour is made up of around 128 players, who play in a series ofevents each year to try and qualify for the big tournaments, such as the World Championship. The Order of Merit is used to decide which 128 players will take part in each event. The players are seeded according to their position on the Order of Merit, so the higher up the list you are, the better your chances of getting into the later rounds of a tournament and winning prize money. The Order of Merit is also used to decide who gets a wildcard entry into the World Championship, so it can be a very important ranking for professional darts players.
